The Most Important Valentine of All

Ahh, Valentine’s Day.  Some love it. Some hate it.  Some celebrate it. Some try to ignore it altogether.

One thing’s for certain: there’s a lot of anticipation built up around this seemingly little holiday.  We’re not knocking Valentine’s Day, but when we place too much emphasis on something external - like receiving flowers and gifts – we’re give someone else control over our happiness.  So, this Valentine’s Day, try celebrating the most important valentine of all:  you!

Whether you’re single, in a committed relationship, or divorced, no relationship is more important than the one you have with yourself.  Instead of waiting for your partner to show you romance, or feeling sad that you don’t have a special person in your life right now, give yourself some love this V-Day.

Here are a few easy ways to do that:

-Recognize all the loves in your life – including your friends, your family, your pets.  For many, those relationships outlast the romantic ones.

-Buy yourself flowers.

-Surprise someone in need of love with a box of chocolates. It’ll make you feel good too.

-Be your own secret admirer and write yourself a love note.  (If you’re not sure what to write, read the nice things people comment on your social media posts.)

Don’t wait for anyone else to make you feel special, or let anyone else make you feel less then.  You truly are the most important valentine in your own life.
